Flood Action Week 2025 | Building Flood Resilience Together
This week (13th–17th October) marks Flood Action Week 2025, a national initiative raising awareness of flood risks and the importance of taking proactive steps to protect homes and communities.
At DisasterCare, we see every day how devastating flooding can be, but also how powerful recovery and resilience become when people have the right knowledge, tools, and support. That’s why we’re proud to help spread awareness this week and highlight FloodRe’s exciting launch of the new Floodmobile, created in partnership with BeFloodReady.
FloodRe Launch The Floodmobile
Unveiled outside Parliament on Monday 13th October to coincide with the start of Flood Action Week, the Floodmobile brings flood protection to life. In a similar way to our purpose-built Flood House at the National Flood School, it showcases real examples of Property Flood Resilience (PFR) — from flood barriers and water-resistant materials to resilient repair techniques — alongside expert advice on flood insurance, Build Back Better, and practical recovery solutions.
Following its parliamentary launch, the Floodmobile will begin its national tour, visiting Birmingham, Manchester, and Lancaster before becoming available to hire across the UK for community and training events. It’s a powerful reminder that even small investments in resistance measures can make a huge difference when flooding strikes.
New Findings On The Value Of Flood Resilience
To mark Flood Action Week, FloodRe has also released two new reports by JBA Consulting, providing the most detailed analysis yet of where and how Property Flood Resilience (PFR) can make a measurable difference. The findings show that practical flood resilience isn’t just possible — it’s powerful.
Key insights include:
-
3.1 million homes across the UK are exposed to flood depths of up to 60cm, where PFR measures are proven to work effectively.
-
National uptake of PFR could reduce annual flood losses by up to £740 million, while targeting the 115,000 most frequently flooded properties could still deliver £238 million in yearly savings.
-
Even with formal flood defences in place, residual risk remains — particularly for surface water flooding, where 83% of properties remain at risk.
-
For more than 50,000 households, the cost of installing PFR is lower than their average expected annual flood loss.
-
Local examples show the real impact — in Hull, wider adoption of PFR could save nearly £20 million every year.
These findings reinforce what we see in our work every day: preparation and resilience are essential to reducing loss, protecting livelihoods, and speeding up recovery.
Leading The Way In Flood Recovery & Resilience
