Introducing Daniel, Senior Water Restoration Technician
We recently caught up with Daniel Cauldwell, Senior Water Restoration Technician and Supervisor at Disaster Care East Midlands, to gain an insight into life on the water damage side of disaster recovery.
Daniel has been part of the Disaster Care East Midlands team for 10 years. Over the past decade, he has grown with the role, developing both technical expertise and leadership responsibilities, and now plays a key role in overseeing water damage projects across the region.
Starting the Day: Leadership in Action
Daniel’s day begins at 8am in the warehouse. As a supervisor, his first responsibility is preparing jobs not only for himself, but for his wider team. This involves reviewing new instructions, allocating resources, organising equipment, and ensuring each technician has what they need to deliver safe, effective restoration. Planning and preparation are critical in water damage claims, where time, precision, and coordination directly influence outcomes.
Once jobs are prepared, Daniel heads out on the road to visit properties and policyholders.
From Triage to Recovery
Daniel works exclusively on water damage projects. His role spans the full lifecycle of a claim, from initial triage through to restoration and recovery.
A typical day might include:

Each property presents its own challenges. Water can travel in unexpected ways, affecting structural elements, insulation, flooring, and hidden voids. Accurate assessment and technical judgement are essential to ensure drying is both thorough and efficient.
Building Expertise Over Time
Daniel originally entered the industry through a friend but has since built a long-term career within disaster recovery. Over his 10 years with Disaster Care, he has achieved multiple IICRC qualifications, strengthening his knowledge of water restoration and drying science. Alongside formal training, he has developed specialist expertise in property drying and built up practical trade skills, including electrics and joinery, which support comprehensive on-site solutions.
This blend of technical knowledge and hands-on skill enables Daniel to approach each project with confidence and clarity.
Problem Solving Every Day
For Daniel, one of the most rewarding aspects of the role is its variety. No two days are the same. Water damage scenarios differ in scale, severity, and complexity. A small domestic leak requires a different approach to a large-scale escape of water affecting multiple rooms. The need to assess, adapt, and problem-solve in real time keeps the role dynamic and engaging.
He also values the opportunity to meet new people. Policyholders are often facing disruption and uncertainty. Providing reassurance, explaining the process clearly, and demonstrating a structured recovery plan are key parts of his role.
