DisasterCare Northern Ireland Supports Amy Wethers’ Fundraiser for Hospice
This summer, athlete Amy Wethers successfully completed the Norn Iron Woman Challenge – an extraordinary feat of endurance that saw her take on six full-distance triathlons in just six weeks. Each triathlon included a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile cycle, and a 26.2-mile marathon run.
Amy’s journey began in County Fermanagh in August, before moving through Counties Londonderry, Antrim, and Down, and concluding in her home county of Armagh.
A Challenge with a Purpose
Amy dedicated the challenge to Southern Area Hospice Services, a charity that provides vital palliative care and relies heavily on community fundraising.
Speaking about her motivation, Amy said:
“The Southern Area Hospice was there for a very dear friend of mine when she needed it most. Taking on this challenge was my way of saying thank you and helping to ensure that other families receive the same incredible support. Completing six triathlons in six weeks was tough, but nowhere near as tough as the journey faced by those living with serious illness.”
DisasterCare’s Triathlon Fundraiser Support
DisasterCare Northern Ireland was proud to support Amy throughout the challenge, providing a support vehicle and staff for the six events.
Company Director David Gamble commented:
“We were extremely proud and privileged to support Amy in what was an incredible challenge. Completing one Ironman is an achievement in itself – but to attempt six in six weeks was simply outstanding. This cause is also very close to my own heart, as the lady who received hospice care and sadly lost her battle with cancer was not only a good friend but also a neighbour. Supporting Amy was our way of remembering her while raising vital funds for such an important charity.”
In addition to providing event support, the DisasterCare Northern Ireland team also donated their AGM Award of £500 to Southern Area Hospice Services in recognition of Amy’s remarkable efforts.
